We are currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Employment Clerk.  Working within our Community Services Department, the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, flexible, and willing to take on special projects as the need arises.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Employment and Training Manager;
  • Assist with Employment Insurance and all the benefits in relation to the program by conducting inquiries;
  • Assist with claimant reports and interpretation of correspondence;
  • Assist clientele with resume preparation, career aptitude test and interview skills;
  • Complete training documentation with the client information and occupational coding;
  • Monitor client progress, attendance and provide consistent update on clients files;
  • Assist clientele to referral or casual, part-time or permanent employment opportunities both within the community and surrounding areas;
  • Data input on clients and statistics;
  • Provide labour market information to clientele, including updates on Labour Standards;
  • Provide information to the General Public regarding agencies and what is provided;
  • Maintain a resources library of career material and education information for clients;
  • Work closely with the Education and Social Enhancement Coordinators to assist clients when applicable;
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Completed at least one year of post secondary studies and/or relevant experience,
  • Highly responsible, reliable and must maintain confidentiality,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook

Mikisew Cree First Nation is seeking a casual Health Care Aide. This position will be responsible for playing a crucial role in the personalized care for our Seniors Care residents. You will be responsible for assisting with activities of daily living, ensuring the well-being and comfort of the residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
  • Assist in transferring and positioning residents to promote mobility and prevent bedsores.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
  • Maintain a clean and organized living environment for residents.
  • Observe and report any changes in the residents’ physical or emotional condition.
  • Promote positive and effective work atmosphere to encourage highest standards possible.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • 12 hour shift – AM as well as PM.
  • Rotation 4 on 4 off.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a health care support role specifically with Seniors would be an asset.

Who You Are

We are currently seeking an Indigenous Knowledge Lead who will be responsible for administering and/or supporting Indigenous Land Use / Indigenous Knowledge Studies and the collection of land and resource use information, participating in special projects and the general administration of areas of responsibility. The Indigenous Knowledge Lead will also be responsible for the coordination of IK studies, help identify appropriate interviewees for various studies, lead workshops and support Guardians activities.

Budget Development:
• Provide support in the development of an Indigenous Knowledge budget.

Community Engagement:
• Communicate and engage with Elders and community members of the MCFN on land use planning, wildlife management, and various other regional issues and concerns.

Data Collection and Analysis:
• Develop, conduct, and/or schedule surveys and interviews with MCFN members to collect Indigenous Knowledge information.
• Draft reports, analyze data, and summarize project work for sharing with the community and GIR team.

Information Management:
• Analyze Indigenous Knowledge, historical data, and traditional land-use information and produce comprehensive reports.
• Upload Indigenous Knowledge information into the Community Knowledge Keeper database.

Project Support:
• Support and supervise technical consultants when needed.
• Research, recommend, and manage third-party contracts and/or projects.

Coordination and Communication:
• Coordinate translation and transcribing of written materials and oral presentations.
• Ensure visual tools, including maps, are available as needed.
• Assist industry, government, and/or technical consultants in understanding Indigenous knowledge for incorporation into projects and planning processes.

Procedure Development:
• Develop and implement procedures for collecting land and resource use information.
• Contribute to revising Indigenous Knowledge Collection Protocols/Guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Schedule meetings, take accurate minutes, and distribute and report accordingly.
• Represent MCFN at external meetings, forums, and workshops.
• Assist in developing annual budgets and report monthly to the Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Manager.
• Perform all duties in accordance with MCFN policies, standards, and procedures.
• Contribute effectively as a team member to the overall plans and objectives of MCFN.

Contribution to GIR Team:
• Assist the Director in developing the annual GIR strategic plan.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with MCFN staff members.
• Participate in applicable initiatives, workshops, conferences, and meetings.
• Contribute to MCFN communication initiatives.

Qualifications
• Diploma or Certificate in Indigenous Studies, Geography, Anthropology, Humanities, Social Studies, or a related field of study.
• At least 5 years experience in matters related to Indigenous Consultation, Wildlife Management, Cultural Impact Assessments, Indigenous Knowledge Studies, or Traditional Land-Use.
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience in the areas of Indigenous Knowledge, community engagement, communications and community organizing,

Management of Assets:

  • Assisting in the management of outsourcing and service arrangements that support the delivery of goods and services.

  • Computing expiration of various assets and create timelines for efficient use and development.
  • Maintaining or improving levels of service.
  • Preparing regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting key financial metrics and providing actionable insights.

Project Management and Reporting:

Risk Management

  • Assist in identifying and assessing risks associated with asset portfolios and implement strategies to mitigate potential challenges.

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum diploma in Business Management or related post-secondary diploma specializing in Finance, Procurement, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Three years experience in asset management, procurement, planning, managing service contracts, operations, and project management. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in building strong rapport and relationship management with First Nations communities and partners would be considered an asset.

PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER KKECH ELDERS CARE POSITION

REPORTING TO: Manager KKECH Elders Care

The Mikisew Cree First Nation – KKECH- Elder Care is recruiting Support Staff to join our team on a casual basis.

Responsibilities:

  • To be on standby or on-call waiting list, to be called at any time, as needed for different shift workdays or nights, including weekends, 12 hr shifts
  • Accurate, concise, and timely documentation and case notes.
  • Provide Elder tours to new clients as required.
  • To work with clients, other staff and other resource people in the community.
  • To respond to telephone inquiries.
  • To document all required information relating to shift in the appropriate logbooks.
  • To ensure that safety and security measures for the shelter are adhered to, performing routine security checks as per policy.
  • To assist clients with meal preparation if needed.
  • To perform regular household chores, including laundry as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide information and referrals as appropriate.
  • Ensure and maintain resident confidentiality, communicating the limits of confidentiality during service provision.
  • Conducting an accurate and concise shift change report to oncoming shift.
  • Complying to all policies and procedures of KKECH to ensure the facility runs smoothly.
  • Participate with feedback in surveys and staff meetings to address what is working and what is needed, regularly.
  • Ability to face dual relationships with an open mind and appropriate personal boundaries with clients, and refrains from involvement with client personal affairs or other business that may constitute a conflict of interest.

License Practical Nurse (KKECH)

Mikisew Cree First Nation is looking for a qualified LPN to join the Elders Care. The successful candidate will collaborate with health members to provide comprehensive care and support to patients and families. The LPN works to the full scope of the practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies and procedures of Mikisew Cree First Nation. The LPN is a member of the care team who uses the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) within the framework of the standards of practice of the Licensed Practical Nurse of Alberta and the policies and procedures of the MCFN, to facilitate those residents receive optimum care to aid in their recovery, to achieve their maximum independence, provide a secure, comfortable home-like environment.  The Licensed Practical facilitates communication between the resident, family, and other health care professionals.

This position will consist of shift work – 14 days on 14 days off, 12-hour shifts in Fort Chipewyan, AB.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medication Assistance with dispensing of prescribed medications and documentation of all medications reordering as needed.
  • Meal Planning/ Collaboration with Dietician and Cook to their specific needs and to ensure all residents receive healthy food choices as per the Canada Food Guide.
  • Reporting observe and reporting any behavioural changes or conditions with the residents or any incidents involving residents within the Care Plan to the Professional staff.
  • Assess and provide treatments and make referrals.
  • Prevent/treat injury/illness.
  • Complete initial and ongoing assessments of residents and patients.
  • Assisting clients with bathing.
  • Follow standards of cleanliness and safety
  • Documents patient care observations and activities according to professional standards and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the facility.
  • Collaboration with professional staff such as Nunee Health Center and Alberta Health Services
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in an LPN or similar role.
  • IV therapy experience would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nations communities.
  • Proven experience in building working relationships with First Nations communities and partners.

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred.

Who You Are

We are looking for a front-line Prevention Worker based in Fort McMurray to work full-time Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. The successful candidate will work with the family support team to work directly with Indigenous families to promote wellness, prevent crises, and strengthen family bonds.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with community members and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Family Support: Provide direct support to Indigenous families, addressing their unique needs and challenges through culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches. Assist FSD in the development of funding proposals and grants and subsequent projects
  • Crisis Prevention: Develop and implement prevention strategies to mitigate potential crises within families, working proactively to address underlying issues.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Infuse cultural practices and traditions into prevention programs, respecting and incorporating the diverse cultural backgrounds of the families served.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Post Majority Worker to join our team. Working under the guidance of the Director of Family Support and Preservation, this role is essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of youth and young adults transitioning out of care until the age of 26. Our mission is to prioritize safety and provide support through personalized services, empowering the youth to lead fulfilling lives as they navigate their individual well-being journey.

Please note that this position is based in Edmonton, AB.  

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Contact former and existing youth and young adults in care who meet the post majority criteria to enroll in voluntary services with the Post Majority Care program. Participate in planning for transitioning youth/young adults including identifying and maintaining connection to family, extended family, and community.
  • Provide wrap-around support that meets the distinct needs and promotes holistic positive outcomes for thriving Mikisew Cree First Nation youth and young adults. Support youth and young adults to be fully independent and identify their own interests to support their well-being for their life-long success.
  • Support youth and young adults to participate in cultural programming and in referrals to internal and external services.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and relevant practices of Mikisew Cree Nation and ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all documents and records. Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and concise work files.
  • Act in accordance with Mikisew First Nation’s Code of Ethics and always maintain confidentiality to protect the privacy of the staff, families, and communities.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Social Services, Child and Youth Worker, or a related Social Sciences Field. Applicable experience will be considered.

  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history is required, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth/ young adults’ engagement, and community outreach.
  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills are also required for this role. Candidates must have the ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills are needed.

We are currently seeking a Wellness Worker to provide temporary support from April to September 2024. This person will play a vital role in supporting the well-being of our community members. The Wellness Worker is responsible for supporting clients through challenges and unhealthy cycles while providing care and resources to support them. The Wellness Worker will report into the Health Office and additional responsibilities include:

• Support and assist MCFN community members dealing with drug, alcohol & chemical dependency issues.
• Develop and implement culturally appropriate wellness programs and initiatives that align with the needs of Mikisew Cree First Nation.
• Assess clients and make necessary referrals to treatment centers or outside agencies.
• Maintain awareness of community members and their well-being at treatment, as well as being self-aware of hazardous situations.
• Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify the unique needs and challenges faced by community members, particularly in relation to mental health and wellness.
• Make home and occasional institutional visits to provide support for members.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records relating to individual clients.
• Communicate with clients and their family members on treatment plans or programs, and with community groups on treatment programs.
• Develop and maintain a drug and alcohol counselling program.
• Maintain statistics and regular reporting on program delivery.
• Prepare and deliver reports on program status and community trends.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver presentations and workshops for the community on drug and alcohol education, dependencies, and treatment.
• Develop a preventive health program to deal with alcohol and drug issues and dependency.
• Serve as an advocate for community members by liaising with external service providers, agencies, and organizations to ensure access to appropriate resources.
• Attending various community functions.
• Maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, & outside agencies.

Qualifications

• Experience working with Indigenous populations.
• Relevant post-secondary education in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
• Must have First Aid and CPR certificate.
• Current Applied Suicide and Intervention training.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Addictions Services Certificate/Diploma or equivalent program in addictions counseling.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in addiction counseling, preferably with a First Nations organization.

The Director is also responsible for the overall financial management of the program and will work closely with Mikisew Chief and Council, Board of Directors, Elders and Alberta Government Liaison’s as well as Indigenous Services Canada.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Excellent communication skills with management team, staff, Board of Directors, Administrator, Chief and Council, Federal/Provincial government representatives, staff and various programs/vendors in order to provide quality service delivery
  • Knowledgeable and a working understanding of the Child Youth Family Enhancement Act and Manual as well as other legislation within the scope of Children Services,
  • Review, revise, implement and monitor business/strategic planning/work plan and operational plan
  • Submit all required annual reports for AGM/monthly board reports
  • Work with Finance to ensure budget meets program needs, complete ongoing reviews and monitoring of expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and/or contracts

Benefits and Compensation Highlights
