Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history, and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. For nearly 30 years, Mikisew Group, our wholly owned business arm, has worked toward the long-term, sustainable economic progress of our Nation and its members through employment and significant investments in education, training, social programs, and infrastructure.

This is a 8 week position based in Fort Chipewyan.

Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Property Assistant. The ideal candidate for this role will support the Property Management office by adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures. They primarily provide clerical assistance to the Property Manager and handle inquiries from the public and external agencies. The role entails maintaining records, filing, and offering administrative support to the Property Manager. Ensuring the confidentiality and security of MCFN Property Management documents and client information is a key responsibility. The Property Assistant is authorized to make decisions within certain parameters without requiring the Property Manager’s signature. They work under the supervision of the Property Manager and do not have direct oversight of other employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain records on all MCFN rental properties.
  • Data entry on Data Base Record System
  • Receive and record all rental payments.
  • Prepare work orders and track progress.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy, neatness, and precision.
  • Operate computers, specified programs and printers.
  • Maintain contact with MCFN tenants on property issues.
  • Process invoices for utility and insurance payments.
  • Develop filing procedures and maintain files on housing applications, lease agreements etc.
  • Prepare correspondence for Property Manager
  • Assist in monthly and annual statements/reports.
  • Assist in conducting Unit Inspections and provide a detailed Scope of Work
  • Maintain a filing system and file accordingly.
  • Register and stamp outgoing mail.
  • Document, handle and/or refer problems, complaints, information, and messages to the Property Manager
  • Maintain an inventory of office supplies and re-order when required.
  • Ensure priorities are set in planning of daily workloads.
  • Continuously update office practices, workload indicators and summaries.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Property Manager

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post Secondary education specific to office education is an asset.
  • 1 – 2 years of proven clerical experience
  • Previous experience with computers, MS Word, Xyntax, Data Entry and excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  • Must be dedicated to exception external and internal guest service
  • Proven decision-making ability
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and co-workers

Other Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to work in Fort Chipewyan.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Willing to work flexible schedule.
  • Must provide and possess a clear criminal record vulnerable sector check.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.

Job Types: Temporary

Salary: $22.69-$25.00 per hour
