On August 18, 2022, Chief Peter Powder announced his resignation from the position of Chief of Mikisew Cree First Nation on social media. Council received Peter Powders written formal notice on August 22nd, 2022. The Mikisew Cree First Nation Customary Election Regulation provides that where a Chief or Councillor resigns with more than 90 days left in his or her term, a By-election must be held. Therefore, Council has resolved to call the By-election for October 8th, 2022.
