High School Humanities Teacher Required for the 2024/25 School Year
DEPARTMENT: MCFN – Education REPORTING TO: Director of Education/Principal
DURATION: Full-Time, Temporary Employee LOCATION: Fort Chipewyan, AB
We are currently seeking a teacher to join our team at the Fort Chipewyan Community High School (1 High School – Humanities Teacher). The Mikisew Cree Education Authority seeks a candidate with high professional standards who is willing to personalize learning to meet the needs of our students. We run a community-based education program that focuses on land-based learning and traditional teachings, while following the Alberta Program of Studies. With employment, candidate will have the opportunity to participate in land-based learning, travel through field trips, post- secondary institution tours and more. Responsibilities:
- Builds positive and productive relationships with students, parents/guardians, peers and other in the school and local community to support student learning.
- Engages in career-long professional learning and critical reflection to improve teaching and
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta Program of Studies High School Humanities
- Applies a current and comprehensive repertoire of effective planning and instruction practices to meet the learning needs of every student.
- Establishes, promotes, and sustains inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced and every student is welcomes, cared for, respected and safe.
- Develops and applies foundational knowledge about Mikisew Cree First Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and Metis for the benefit of all the students.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the legal frameworks and policies that provide the foundations for the Alberta Education system.
- Willingness to participate in community activities, events, and programming will exponentially support student and family relationship; therefore, increasing academic excellence and cultural, language and place

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Education degree and a valid Alberta Teaching Experience working in Indigenous Communities is considered an asset.
