 Who You Are

Reporting to The Director of Technical Services, The Water Treatment Plant Operator II at Mikisew Cree First Nation will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of water treatment and distribution systems. Responsible for daily operations, maintenance, and compliance with Health Canada regulations, you will contribute to the overall well-being of the community by providing clean and safe water. This position involves working outdoors in various environmental conditions and may require on-call duties.

 This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB

 Roles & Responsibilities

 Perform daily sampling, testing, flow controls, and chemical dosage in accordance with water plant practices and Health Canada regulations.

  • Conduct maintenance and operations of water and wastewater facilities, including wastewater collection and treatment systems.
  • Respond to emergency calls, coordinate emergency repairs, and work with qualified contractors.
  • Monitor and maintain water wells, conducting necessary maintenance and reporting.
  • Utilize Scada System for monitoring water and wastewater systems and responding to alarms.
  • Read and understand construction and record drawings.
  • Compile daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports; maintain SOP, ERP, and DWSP.
  • Record meter readings for water and wastewater systems.
  • Adhere to and enforce Mikisew Cree First Nation safe job procedures and policies.
  • Other duties as required by the Supervisor or Manager of Water Treatment Plant/Director Mikisew Technical Services.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Post-secondary education or training in water and wastewater treatment is an asset.
  • Level II Certification in Water Treatment or equivalent based on experience and training.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License (unrestricted) with annual driver’s abstract check.
  • Safety tickets are an asset and may be required within a specified timeframe.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
