Who We Are
The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. For nearly 30 years, Mikisew Group, our wholly owned business arm, has worked toward the long-term, sustainable economic progress of our Nation and its members through employment and significant investments in education, training, social programs and infrastructure.
Who You Are
Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Temporary Custodian. The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, adaptable, and ready to tackle non-routine cleaning tasks and special projects as needed. The Custodian will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and public spaces. The overall appearance of our building reflects the care and respect we have for our occupants, making it essential for the Custodian to approach their work with careful attention to detail and completeness. Our ideal candidate will possess prior experience in custodial roles with a focus on building maintenance. They should have the physical stamina required to cover large areas and a sharp eye for detail, coupled with a strong work ethic.
This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB
Roles & Responsibilities
- Ensuring spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
- Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets
- Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and restocking disposables.
- Wipe mirrors, windows, and glass.
- Remove garbage and recycle daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up.
- Undertake occasional custodian tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
- Make note of cleaning supplies that need to be ordered.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as custodian, Janitor or in a similar role
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness
- Very good physical condition and strength
- High school diploma is preferred but not required
Other Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends and be on-call when required.
- Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
- Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
Must be fluent in English and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
